Lucy sat alone in "her corner" after a too long school day. Isolation. It was brilliant, all together brilliant. If you were alone, the chances of you getting annoyed or irritated were slimmer than if you were in a crowded room, but that was common sense. Lucy had been nearly invisible the past few days, not on purpose, but she had just been rather quiet. The fact that Oliver has suddenly showed up in town was certainly puzzling, perhaps that was part of the reason Lucy had been so hushed, she was still stunned at the fact her humble, modest, brother left for college, and returned only a few months later, and arrogant ass. That was the question that was consuming her thoughts, what had happened to him? The inquiry pinched the back of her eyes, and made her throat begin to swell. Lucy quickly blinked away the near tears, and continued to stare at the blank wall in front of her. The Oliver that she knew no longer existed.
"Now, that's no way to greet your favorite brother who took a four hour bus ride to come and see their sister is it?" She remembered his new tone of voice say, with a cocky, sinister smile.
With a long sigh, Lucy decided it was probably best to wallow in her own pathetic pity somewhere other than the school. Talk about looking like a prat. She really didn't want to go home, considering Oliver would be there, doing only God knows what, shaming the family name. She forced her suddenly heavy body up, and started toward the exist. She figured a walk might get her mind of her troubles.
"Yeah, and she doesn't know who the father is either, there's more than one possible guy. Multiple guys actually. Word on the street is, she went to a party and slept with every guy there....but that's just a rumor, I don't actually know." A girl stood in the center of a small group of people.
She had only heard of a few people on the various gossip sites that the city used as some sick kind of form of communication. One of those people was Selena.
"I heard her baby's daddy is Mr. Blackwell." Another guy piped in.
“Who exactly are you talking about?” Lucy broke her way into the circle. She had a bad feeling she knew who they were talking about, but she really hoped she was wrong. Her best friend…. Pregnant. It was just too much of a nightmare to think about during the day.
“Selena?” The entire group looked at her as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Do the lot of you honestly have nothing better to do with you time, than to gossip your afternoon away? Good Lord. I’ll have to light a candle for all of you. Don’t you know it’s a sin to gossip?” Lucy walked away briskly only to hear murmurs that she should start praying for her damned friend before any of the rest of them.
The wall of rumors had no creditability at all, once she read, that she had 'the clap', what the hell? Did the whole school know, that Lucy could be passed off as the Virgin Mary herself? Her internal conversation, was soon interrupted as she walked into a person.
"I am so sorry." Lucy promised almost immediately.
