The halls were quiet as Zephyr walked down them aimlessly. She had been in this situation before, the one where she had shown up late to school. It was the same every time. She would walk towards the front office, dreading her arrival to what might have been the darkest room in the school. It's walls were painted navy blue and the carpet was different specks of gray all thrown together to make the cheapest possible flooring the school could buy. Zephyr gulped as she rested her hand on the cool, silver knob.
Slowly, she twisted the knob as of trying to prolong entering the office. As expected, it was dark, dimly lit by a single lamp and the glow of computer monitors behind the desk. The plump receptionist eyed Zephyr mischievously and Zephyr sat down in the chair, waiting for what was going to happen next. She didn't have to guess. She had gotten the routine down to a tee. First, the receptionist would settle into her chair and smile smugly at Zeph, then she would punch in the numbers necessary to find the attendance officer. Next she would whisper into the phone as though she were telling a secret but Zephyr knew she was bad-mouthing her. She always did. Then she would hang up and smirk in Zephyr's direction while they both waited for Mrs. Chapman to arrive.
Once she did she would throw the door open and call Zephyr back into her office, which was intimidatingly brighter and whiter than the front office. She would yell at Zephyr about her attendance and then send her on her way. By the time the whole charade was over, the bell was ringing and Zephyr was ready to be out of there. It always gave the young hippie the creeps.
As she made her way to her second period, she stopped to catch a drink of water from the fountain. Well, the day had certainly started off well for the blond, now hadn't it? zeph at school

Ryan was very, very late. Not that anyone really cared anymore. Pretty much it seemed that Ryan could do as well as he fucking pleased. Ryan smiled at the thought of this. Walking into the school, Ryan walked into the attendance office, set down a fake doctors note and set it on the desk. They didn't need to ask his name. They knew who it was.
Walking down to his second period, Art with Jasmine; Ryan knew she wouldn't mind him being late. He was very, very good at art. Walking over to a blonde girl he smiled "Girl from the chat...correct?" He laughed, then looked at her, not paying very much attention to her. Ryan was wearing jeans and a plain back t-shirt. Nothing special.

When she heard the voice behind her, she jumped, flinging bits of water that had dampened her golden curls while she was drinking. Zephyr giggled a bit, watching as droplets of the water landed on the boy's face. She hadn't really recognized him but he had recognized her. Once she quit giggling, she responded. "Um, well Ive been on the chat a few times. Are you Ryan?" she asked.
It would have been easier to tell but she couldn't see his picture very well on the computer. It was just of him licking some part of a girl and that didn't give her much to go off. She smiled, though, letting her green eyes take in all of him. He was significantly taller than herself and very thin and he wore a lot of black. She must have looked like a little Sunday School girl to him in her yellow top and white keds.
The funny part was that she was far from it. If she could help it, she wouldn't have ever been sober and if she could get the chance she would loved to have tried acid or some other drugs. She wasn't a bad girl, just an adventurous one who had a special place in her heart for antiques and sentimental things.

Watching as the girl turned and freaked out a bit, splashing him slightly when she turned with water. Ryan lifted up his hand and ran it on the water that hit is face, whiping it off. He leaned against the wall in more of a casual way then anything else saying. "No, I'm not Ryan. I'm Jesus." He told her with a slight smile then looked at her. "How do you say your name?" Ryan asked, unsure. Ryan probably wouldn't have felt bad if he said it wrong but honestly, Ryan was a little curious about her name. It was a nice, unique name. Looking at the girl again, he waited.

Zephyr giggled a bit at his joke and noted mentally that she was right. She too, crossed her arms over the yellow top covering her chest and leaned against the wall next to him, smirking a bit. As unusual as her name was, she knew that it was usually fairly simple for people to pronounce. In the very least, people knew it from that movie, Lords of Dogtown. It had come out when she would have been in fifth grade and since then, that was how people identified her name. Other than the people like her dad who identified it with the actual Zephyr surf and skate team.
Zephyr eyed the boy curiously before she spoke, trying to decide if he were being genuine or not,. finally, she decided he was though and she answered his question. "It's not that hard to pronounce actually, but I guess I can see how it would look that way. It's pronounced like Zeh fur." she said, sounding it would the best she could without sounding too idiotic.

"Thought so." Ryan said looking at the girl who honestly looked like an uptight, Christian school girl to him but he thought better to not say anything just yet. Ryan looked away from the girl and then back at her again, unsure what to say. "Late?" He asked, mostly pointing out the obvious that they would be late together "What grade are you in, by the way?" He asked, really unsure. He didn't know this girl that well so he couldn't really have a conversation with her, not a good one at least.

Zephyr nodded, noting the awkwardness of the situation. She was well aware that she resembled some private school snob but the funny thing was that she was extremely far from it. For a person like Zephyr, it could easily be said that looks were deceiving. She knew personally that she could probably out smoke any person in that school with pride but on the outside, she looked like someone who probably didn't even know the meaning of the word marijuana. The fact of the matter was that Zephyr simply liked to look nice. She liked looking good and feeling cute, even if it meant that her looks were telling lies about her personality.
Hearing Ryan's question about her grade she looked up a bit. "Oh, I'm a Junior. Not too exciting but I guess I'm just making it through day to day. You're a senior, right? You kind of look like a senior. Why are you late anyhow?" she asked, firing questions out. She stopped herself though, not wanting to annoy him. But she had to admit, awkwardness was annoying to her and she didn't really want to deal with it more than she had to.
Waiting for his response, she clutched her books to her chest and gazed around the halls for a clock. Not that she minded talking to Ryan but she knew that if their short conversation filled with meaningless small talk didn't come to a close soon, she would be late to her next class on top of being absent from her first.

"Ah." Ryan said to the girl then hearing her rambling that annoyed Ryan somewhat. If it was an intresting rambling then maybe he would have enjoyed it but the girl annoyed him slightly for a moment there "Yeah." was all he responded making it sound more like 'yeaaahh', streaching it out a bit. "I look like a senior and you look like a church-goer" Ryan commented pretty casually. Hearing her next question Ryan shrugged "Honey was freaking out so I had to calm her down." Ryan said. His friend watched Honey while he was at school. Honey was like having a child. It was annoying but you loved them. "What about you?" He asked/

"Looks can be deceiving." Zephyr stated simply, ignoring the fact that he sounded a little rude. She was no stranger to rudeness, and sometimes she was able to look past it and not let it phase her. Though, it was granted that she was usually on a bit of high. However, right now she was unbothered, as she clutched her books to her chest, her green eyes connecting with his dark ones for a moment before flickering away and staring off down the hall way.
Next she heard him comment about someone named Honey, which the blond could only assume was the pet name he had for his girlfriend. However, she couldn't help but feel that he wasn't the type to have a girlfriend. Of course, she had already said that looks could be deceiving.
Rather than ask questions though, she simply answered his question. "I woke up late and have basically been fumbling over everything all day." she said, a slight hint of annoyance in her tone. Yes, her day had started off in the most unpleasant way and now it was about to continue. Her green eye caught sight of the clock near by ticking away to the next bell. Zeph wrinkled her nose, not wanting to go to class. But she knew she needed to so she started to excuse herself.
"Well, it's been a real slice but I gotta get to class. Mr. Blackwell is expecting me and I don't need to be late if I already missed a class. See you later." she said, sliding from her space against the wall and walking briskly down the hallway.
She had gotten nearly ten steps away when she accidentally bumped into an upperclassman. He was much taller than herself and overall, much bigger. She accidentally dropped her books and he turned angrily towards her. As she bent down to get her things, the boy caught her by the wrist and pulled her up.
"Hey, watch where you're going princess." he growled at her. She frowned, her wrist hurting from his tight grip and she tried to pull away, protesting that it was only an accident. He rolled his eyes though. "Didn't seem like an accident to me. Seemed like a little girl in a big hurry to get somewhere with no disregard for the people around her." he spat, throwing her to the ground with his release.
Zephyr was in a daze, confused about the whole situation. It had genuinely been nothing but an accident, so why was this guy being so violent? She looked blankly up at him and then to her wrist that was already visibly bruising. What the actual fuck?

"Looks can also define you." Ryan noted with a small smile. Ryan was a rude boy at times. "Have fun in class." Ryan said and replying to a text and then realizing that he was going the same way as the girl. Ryan walked slowly and knew that the blonde was several feet in front of him and was suprised by what he saw.
Ryan had hit girls before and it was never really "called for" but it was never something completely random like that. Seriously? Getting a little annoyed and rolling your eyes is one thing if someone bumps into you but no need to push a chick for that. At least that's what Ryan thought about it.
Sighing, Ryan walked over there and hadn't said anything yet and walked over and gave the guy a look "What the fuck?". Leaning down slightly, he extended his arm for Zephyr to take it if she wanted.

Zephyr groaned, grasping Ryan's hand and helping herself off the cold tile. She was just as confused as Ryan was, if not more so, but she wasn't going to make something large out of. She didn't see any point in fighting a battle she would obviously lose. After all, the larger boy had just tossed her to the ground like a used piece of garbage. The odds of her winning anything verbal with him were just as good as the odds of her winning anything physical.
Once properly on her feet, Zephyr proceeded to grab her books, wincing a bit as she placed them against her visibly bruising arm. She attempted a grin though, not wanting to look like a helpless little brat. "Looks like this innocent little church-goin' gal should watch where she's going, eh?" she asked, offering a bit of a laugh.
She was thankful that Ryan had come to her side but she wished he wouldn't have had to. And it wasn't that she couldn't have gotten off the ground herself. But the blond was dumbfounded, sitting in shock in the hallway with they eyes of her classmates boring into her and the whole scene. Quietly she rubbed her arm, not caring as much as she had before when the tardy bell rang.

Ryan smiled slightly at her comment. "Yeah. Probably." He said, looking at her arm for a second. "Just ignore him. He's an ass." he shrugged. Ryan was an ass but he really wasn't that bad. Ryan wouldn't hit a girl like that. Staring at her arm for a second "Ouch. Sorry about him though...really..." Ryan said then smiled "And thats why you don't leave Ryan. Ever" He said, teasing her hoping to lighten the mood. Watching a teacher walk down the hallway she gave them a weird look but kept walking anyhow. Ryan didn't know what to say or do.

With thoughts echoing in the back of her head persuading her to ditch the rest of the day seeing as she's already missed her first period and would be late to her second period, the blond rolled her eyes and smiled at Ryan's comment. "Had I known this would have happened, I never would have left." she commented, in a way that might have sounded flirty coming from anyone else, but sounded perfectly normal coming from Zeph.
Leaning her back against the lockers, she faced Ryan, attempting to put the pain of her wrist out of her mind, and really the whole, unusual event. She couldn't particularly understand what would have made a person snap in that way but she just settled with a simple answer and decided it was "roid-rage". The kid had been pretty big after all, but she still didn't think it was very nice for him to pick on underclassmen like herself, or defenseless girls for that matter.
Not to say that Zephyr wouldn't normally have tried to stick up for herself but there was no denying it. She was skinny, little Zephyr O'Malley would probably would have been beaten to a pulp had she tried anything. She wasn't a fighter after all. She was a lover. A peaceful, whimsical being who simply didn't understand why people would even want to act that way anyhow. Hadn't anyone learned anything from the hippies?

Ryan wasn't really a good student and he knew this. Most of the underclassmen kind of just just kind of ignored him besides a select few. The ones who he did talk to were all a little odd, quirky, strange and very crazy. Most of them held secrets that were unspoken off. Ryan tried to ignore most of it, figuring it was none of his business to poke and prod into his friends lives. "I can tell." Ryan said in a flat voice. Looking over at the girl, Ryan then glanced down the hallway. "Which class did you say you were going to?"

Zephyr let her small smile show through, acknowledging his small comment at her previous statement. Her green eyes scanned the halls once again. They had cleared, leaving the couple of them alone in the dimly lit halls. Her eyes drifted to the fading colored tiles that lined the floors where she had recently fallen until she absently found herself looking back at Ryan again. Her smile fell just a bit, not because she was upset but more because she didn't want to look like a smiling fool. Hearing his question she answered simply, "I don't believe I did say, Mr. Smith." letting her smile be replaced with a smirk.
